Our worship draws on a breadth of Anglican tradition. At the main Sunday service, the Parish Communion, Common Worship is used; hymns and psalms are led by a small choir which is augmented for special occasions.
Our young people contribute to services on a regular basis; for young children there is some provision in church and plans are being made to restart Sunday School in September. All-Age services are held once a month. Evensong, the early Communion and the mid-week Communion are quiet services using the Book of Common Prayer. In the context of a semi-rural parish pastoral care through personal contacts is a strong feature of the church's ministry. The Priest-in-Charge is supported in this by a lay Pastoral Visiting group. There are close links with the wider community, enhanced by a variety of social events, and with Shincliffe Church of England Primary School which uses the church for services. Consecrated in1851 and a Grade II listed building, St. Mary's is a good example of a village church in the neo-Gothic style of its period; it has a peal of six bells. A history, published in 2001 to mark the 150th anniversary, is available in Church.
